The Toronto office is the newest addition to the Networkers International Global Portfolio and has been physically operational since May 2011. We currently have successful teams working within the Telecommunications and Energy & Engineering sectors. Heavy investment is also being made in the IT team and we are currently looking to expand all areas.

Toronto is widely recognised across the global business infrastructure as the ‘commercial decision making hub’ of Canada, so was a natural choice for us to base our Canadian operation. There are lots of exciting opportunities here within each of our areas of specialism and as a working location Toronto is regularly voted in the top 3 most liveable cities in the World!

Just a few of the highlights are:

  • Toronto is Canada’s busiest, most cosmopolitan city on the shores of Lake Ontario.
  • Toronto is a very vibrant, multicultural place. There’s a festival for every neighbourhood and ethnic group in the city.
  • Culturally very similar to the UK with no language barrier and the Queen’s face can be found on your dollars!
  • It has the thriving nightlife of a major city but without the crime that is usually associated with it. In fact Toronto is one of the safest cities in the world.
  • It’s equally great for families with heavily subsidised activities and lots of parks and open spaces.
  • There’s no shortage of things to do despite the season! For the hot summers check out the beach area in the city, water sports on the lakes, hiking etc. In the winter there are perfect conditions for skiers & snowboards to enjoy the powder only a short distance from the city.
  • Economically sound,Canada has a fraction of the UK budget deficit and significant Natural resources.
  • Warm, friendly and welcoming locals who want you to love their city as much as they do!

Would you consider relocating with your job? Do you think the opportunity of working abroad is exciting? Well now could be the time to make that move.  Networkers International is an exciting global recruitment company with 14 offices in 10 countries and we are continuing to grow!

One office heavily recruiting is our USA Headquarters based in Plano,Texas; a city just outside of Dallas. Established in 2006, it’s a great central location in the USA and just a few hours flight from Los Angeles, New York, Miami and Las Vegas!

There are no cultural or language barriers to overcome, and believe it or not, most Americans love us Brits! With the low cost of living and property prices around 50% of the cost of comparable places in the UK, it makes it a great place for those looking to establish themselves on the property ladder or for those with families. The great schools and excellent healthcare system really make it a superb place to set down roots.

The Networkers Dallas office currently has 18 employees, including our highest global biller and is growing in the following buoyant market sectors:

  • Telecommunications
  • Information Technology
  • Energy & Engineering

We have an ambitious growth plan over the next 18 months and are looking for individuals with the right drive and ambition to help us achieve our goal of continued growth and success!

But what of the other attractions of Dallas? Well, the climate is fantastic for one, with 9 months of the year that are warm and sunny.

Plano has one of the lowest tax rates in the USA and is one of only of a handful of States that has no additional State Tax. Now what can be better than actually seeing your hard earned dollars in your bank account at the end of the month and not the tax man’s hand?

But a word of caution for those lucky enough to be under 21 years old, you will not be able to drive or drink in bars.

If you like what you have read and want to relocate to an amazing place, but with the security of knowing you are joining a successful and expanding company, then come and talk to us!

Top CV Tips

Writing a good CV can be one of the toughest challenges of job hunting. Most employers spend just a few seconds scanning each CV before sticking it in the ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ pile.

We at Networkers have put together our list of useful tips to ensure you have that CV that people want to read and have a reason to meet you face to face.

Keep it simple
A CV should be no more than two pages of A4 paper! Make your CV look interesting to read. Use bullet points and keep sentences short and to the point.

Use a personal statement
Use a short personal statement after your name to explain why you are the best person for the job and summarise your key skills.

Include everything
Leaving gaps on your CV will make potential employers question your work history so always explain why these gaps occurred. It is important to be honest on your CV, do not lie as you will inevitably be found out and this will have a serious impact on your credibility.

Keep it up to date
You should keep your CV up-to-date whether you’re looking for a job or not. Whenever something significant occurs in your career, note it on your CV.

Check spelling and grammar
Ensure your CV has no spelling or grammatical errors by using a spell checker or asking someone else to read through it. Employers DO look for mistakes and if found, they can make you look unprofessional.

Don’t be shy to shout about your achievements
Your CV should sell you to a potential employer so it is important to include all your achievements – professional or personal. If you have significantly and consistently exceeded targets or won awards etc., note this as it will demonstrate the level of candidate you are.

Make it keyword friendly for job boards
If you’ve uploaded your CV to a job site, keywords are very important. Job titles and job buzzwords will help a search engine pick out your CV from the pile. If you’re not sure, have a search online and see what words are commonly mentioned when you input your job title.

Ensure your contact details are on your CV
Make sure you enter at the top of your CV a telephone number to be contacted on and an email address. You would be amazed at the amount of people who don’t include these.

LinkedIn is the largest business related social media networking site in the world. With over 120 million professionals registered and still growing, it is one of the most widely utilised networking sites currently active.

Professionals from all walks of life and based in countries all over the world, can be linked to one another by a press of a button. However, with social media recruitment getting more and more aggressive, it is the active LinkedIn in user who really reaps the rewards.

People use LinkedIn in many ways. Some to know what is happening in their market; others monitor their competitors and most importantly, see the moves and shakes of organisations. However to get to this point, the user should be an ‘attractive LinkedIn user’ for them to be able to expand their network.

Quite often people join networks due to social pressure, or because others are. There must be an objective behind joining a professional website and as such, they must allocate time and the necessary resources to make it work. People must listen and engage with fellow users and by doing so they add value to their initial objective.

To create a LinkedIn profile, follow this link (www.linkedin.com) and complete the easy instructions to ‘Join LinkedIn Today’.

If you do have an account, to make yourself an ‘attractive LinkedIn user’, some points to review are:

Profile
When arranging a meeting or applying for jobs, many people use LinkedIn to research individuals.  Therefore each LinkedIn user needs to ensure they have the most accurate information about themselves, past and current work history, a professional profile photo, recommendations, and a profile summary at the very least. This will begin to build credibility.

Network
Building a valuable network on LinkedIn is paramount to successfully utilising this social network. Establishing connections with current and ex-colleagues, networking contacts, industry contacts, global contacts within industry and so forth will help create this network. By building a larger network of valuable LinkedIn users, will further enhance credibility and knowledge of industries.

Further Networking
To ensure full integration within a social media set up, and in order to network as much as possible, users should utilise relevant groups. These groups will have other users with common interests, experience and career ambitions. This way, the user will reach out to an audience that is relevant to their initial objective for joining LinkedIn. People create their own groups, polls and constant status updates to increase their profile on LinkedIn.

Keep it clean
If people have several email accounts, ensure you only keep one LinkedIn profile. Keep it clean and straightforward and associate LinkedIn to the most commonly used email address.  Group settings must be managed and ensure your privacy settings are set correctly.

To start utilising LinkedIn as a CV database – build your credibility and then start searching!

So, how LinkedIn are you?

Interviews can be scary but they needn’t be. Take some time to think about what you shouldn’t do!  Below are some of our suggestions!

  • Don’t forget to switch your phone off
  • Don’t chew gum
  • Don’t smoke before an interview
  • Don’t turn up late for an interview
  • Don’t rely on your resume to sell you, ensure you have read through your resume
  • Don’t slouch or fidget
  • Don’t use poor language such as “like”, “um”, “you know”, “yeah”
  • Don’t speak softly, ensure you project your voice confidently
  • Don’t make negative comments about previous jobs and employers
  • Don’t lie
  • Don’t respond with one word answers, always elaborate as opposed to “yes” and “no”
  • Don’t discuss personal issues or problems in interview
  • Don’t inquire about salary, bonuses, benefits until interviewer(s) lead to this topic or a potential offer
  • Don’t interview for a job unless you are really interested
  • Don’t glorify your past experiences – getting into a job that you are underqualified for is not recommended
  • Don’t make excuses for unfavourable parts of your previous experience
  • Don’t act desperate for a job
  • Don’t ramble or over complicate your answers, pause and think before you answer to ensure you are answering the question
